Rwanda edge Cameroon in a pre-CAN friendly

In the second international friendly match ahead of the continental championship, the Rwanda Men’s Senior National Team secured a nail-biting 27-26 victory over Cameroon this Sunday evening.

 

In a heart-pounding encounter held at BK Arena from 19:00, the Rwanda Men’s Senior National Team secured a victory, marking a triumphant turn around in the final preparations for the historic 27th Men’s Senior Handball Africa Cup of Nations (CAN 2026). Earlier, Rwanda played another friendly match against Gabon but lost (29-31).

As the official kick-off of the tournament is close to 10 days, the Men’s National team is to play the last preparatory match against Gabon on January 15th, 19h00 local time.

The CAN 2026 will fixture 16 teams across Africa, selected in 4 groups. The tournament will be held at BK Arena and Petit Stade from 21st to 31st January 2026.

Rwanda, the host country, is drawn in group A alongside Algeria (2024 finalist), Nigeria and Zambia.

Cameroon is drawn in group C alongside Tunisia (the most titled 10 & participant 27), Guinea and Kenya.

Gabon national team is in group B, alongside Egypt (current champions & most participant 27), Angola and UGANDA (first participant)

Group D is composed of Cape Verde, Morocco, Congo and Benin.

The best 5 teams of the CAN 2026 will be qualified to the 2026 IHF Men’s Senior World Cup.
