Rwanda Junior National Handball Team emerged winners of the 2024 IHF Africa Trophy that concluded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, after a convincing 34-25 win over Reunion Island on Wednesday, November 6.
The team headed by Coach Francois Xavier Ngarambe team finished the tournament unbeaten after winning all four games to become the champions of Africa.
With the victory, Rwanda will represent Africa in the 2025 IHF Trophy Intercontinental Phase, hosted in a yet-to-be-confirmed country.
The Intercontinental Phase brings together countries that won the tournament from their respective continents.
Sports Minister Richard Nyirishema has commended the Rwanda U20 handball team for showing their winning character after returning to the country as champions of Africa.
Rwanda was crowned champions of the 2024 IHF Trophy Continental Phase, which concluded in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Wednesday, November 6. They beat Reunion 34-25 in the final.
Arriving at the Kigali International Airport, the team was warmly welcomed by fans and officials, including Rwanda Handball Federation (FERWAHAND) President Alfred Twahirwa.
Later, at a celebration held at Hôtel des Milles Collines, officials expressed pride in the team’s historic win, marking Rwanda’s first-ever intercontinental handball trophy.
